Tarangire National Park, located in Tanzania's Manyara Region, derives its name from the Tarangire River, which traverses the park and serves as the primary source of fresh water for wildlife in the Tarangire Ecosystem during the annual dry season. This ecosystem is characterized by the long-distance migration of wildebeest and zebras, with thousands of animals converging in the park during the dry season from surrounding wet-season dispersal and calving areas.
Covering approximately 2,850 square kilometers (1,100 square miles), the park features a diverse landscape of granitic ridges, river valleys, and swamps. Its vegetation includes Acacia and Combretum woodlands, seasonally flooded grasslands, and iconic baobab trees. While the park is renowned for its large herds of elephants, it also offers abundant opportunities to observe a variety of other wildlife.
